Nerd's are socially acceptable, geek's have crossed the line.

GEEK It is commonly believed that the word "geek" originates with side-show "circus geeks" — performers at carnivals who swallow various live animals, live insects, and so forth. Sometimes this would extend to biting the heads off of chickens or other small livestock.

NERD a Nerd, as a stereotypical or archetypal designation, refers to somebody who pursues academic and intellectual interests at the expense of social skills such as: interpersonal communication, fashion, hygiene and physical fitness.

Should be easy to tell them apart one will smell and wear glasses and one will have blood running down his chin and be full.
